Plus que jamais, Hergé continue d'enrichir et de ciseler son œuvre. Les anciens épisodes sont mis en couleurs et s'ajoutent aux nouveaux albums : Le Crabe aux pinces d'or et Le Trésor de Rackham le Rouge en 1944, Tintin en Amérique en 1945, Tintin au Congo et Le Lotus bleu en 1946, Le Sceptre d'Ottokar en 1947. Mais pour Georges Remi les années d'après-guerre sont cruelles : la maladie et le décès de sa mère, l'indélicatesse de son agent, le sort malheureux de ses amis, les difficultés conjugales, le surmenage, lui font regarder sa vie et sontravail avec une distance qu'il n'avait jamais eu le temps de prendre. Il s'interroge sur sa relation à Tintin. Mais c'est aussi le moment où la presse internationale commence à se disputer son œuvre et où est créé le journal Tintin.
